Countdown Timer for PowerPoint

Need a countdown timer for your PowerPoint presentation? Set up named timers for each segment on onetimer, then switch between them from Recently Used during your talk — on a second screen, in a browser tab, or fullscreen. No Office add-in or subscription required.

Step 1: Build your presentation timer list (recommended)

Instead of opening a new duration page for every segment, create timers with titles that match your agenda on the main Timer page. Each one you start is saved to Recently Used so you can reload it with one click later.

  1. Open the main Timer page and click Set Timer.
  2. Enter a duration and a clear title for the segment — for example "Opening remarks · 5 min", "Q&A", or "Group exercise · 10 min". Titles show up in Recently Used so you can tell segments apart at a glance.
  3. Choose sound and post-zero behavior if needed, then click Start once to save this timer to Recently Used (you can stop it immediately if you are only preparing).
  4. Repeat for every timed block in your run-of-show. You can store up to 10 recent timers in your browser.
  5. Before you present, scroll to Recently Used on the Timer page and confirm each segment appears with the right title and duration.

Example titles: "Keynote intro · 8 min", "Panel Q&A · 15 min", "Break · 10 min". The title is what you scan during the presentation — the duration appears beside it in the list.

Scroll to Recently Used on the Timer page — click a title to load that segment and start the countdown.

Method 1: Second screen or device (recommended)

The cleanest setup for live presentations. Keep your slides on the main projector and show the timer on a confidence monitor, iPad, or phone.

  1. Open your presentation in PowerPoint on your primary display.
  2. On a second monitor — or a phone/tablet — open onetimer.com/timer with your presentation timers already in Recently Used.
  3. When a segment starts, tap the matching title in Recently Used. The timer loads and starts immediately.
  4. Click Fullscreen on the timer so the countdown is visible on the confidence monitor. The alarm sounds when time is up.

Method 2: Browser tab on the same computer

  1. Before presenting, prepare titled timers on /timer (see steps above) so Recently Used lists every segment.
  2. Keep the Timer tab open in the background during your talk.
  3. When a segment begins, Alt+Tab (Windows) or Cmd+Tab (Mac) to the timer tab and click the segment name in Recently Used.
  4. Use browser fullscreen for a large countdown, then return to PowerPoint when the segment ends.

onetimer vs PP Timer

PP Timer is a popular PowerPoint add-in that places a timer inside your slide. onetimer takes a different approach — a free web timer that runs beside your presentation.

Frequently asked questions

Can onetimer run inside a PowerPoint slide?
Not natively. Tools like PP Timer are Office add-ins that embed inside slides. onetimer is a web app — use a second screen, browser tab, or projector input switch instead.
Is onetimer free for presentations?
Yes. All timer features are free with no account required.
How do I switch between different talk segments?
Create each segment once with a distinct title and duration, then start it at least once so it appears in Recently Used. During the presentation, click the segment name — onetimer loads that duration and title and starts the countdown right away.
Do I need a separate URL for each timer length?
No. Stay on the main Timer page. Named entries in Recently Used replace juggling multiple preset links or bookmarked duration pages.
Will the timer work if my laptop sleeps?
The countdown needs your device awake with the timer tab open. Disable sleep mode during critical timed segments.
