How to Add a Timer to Notion
Embed a free online countdown timer or digital clock directly in your Notion workspace. Copy a preset URL below, paste it into a Notion embed block, and start timing — the iframe loads /embed/timer or /embed/clock, not the full onetimer chrome.
Why embed instead of a separate timer tab
If your task list, notes, and meeting agenda already live in Notion, a timer in another window is the first thing you bury. An embed keeps the countdown on the same page as the work. That is the only reason to embed: visual proximity. The timer still runs in the browser, still needs the page open, and still obeys autoplay rules.
onetimer exposes dedicated embed routes — /embed/timer, /embed/alarm, /embed/clock, /embed/countdown — generated from the Share section on the matching module. Notion wants a URL. Other sites can take the iframe HTML from the Embed Code Generator (show buttons, size preset, copy URL or copy HTML). Prefer a dedicated page over an embed? The fullscreen timer runs in its own tab.
Embed a timer in Notion
- Open your Notion page and type /embed (or click + and choose Embed).
- Paste one of the onetimer embed URLs below. Preset timer links are /embed/timer URLs with duration, title, appearance, and autostart query params. The clock preset is /embed/clock.
- Resize the block so the digits and Start/Pause/Reset controls fit. Tight blocks hide buttons even when the URL has buttons=1.
- Click Start inside the embed (or rely on autostart if the preset sets it and Notion allowed the iframe to load). Keep the Notion page open while it runs.
- If there is no sound at zero, click inside the embed once — browsers block autoplay until you interact with that frame. Enable Sound appears when the page still needs a gesture.
Ready-to-use embed URLs
Copy any preset URL and paste it into Notion's embed dialog. Each URL includes appearance settings optimized for Notion blocks and points at /embed/timer or /embed/clock.
25-minute focus timer
Classic Pomodoro work block — embed in a Notion focus page.
5-minute break timer
Short break between focus sessions.
10-minute timer
Quick task or meeting countdown.
Digital clock
Live clock for dashboards and daily notes.
Customize from /timer (Share → Embed)
Visit the main Timer page. Click Set Timer, choose Duration (or Date/Time), title, sound, repeat, and post-zero behavior (stop, auto-restart, or count up). Start once if you want it in Recently Used.
- On /timer, use the toolbar control Jump to share section (or scroll to Share).
- Click Embed. The Embed Code Generator opens with Embed URL and HTML code. The URL path is /embed/timer plus your settings as query parameters.
- Copy URL for Notion. Copy HTML Code for a generic iframe (include allow="autoplay" as the generator does).
- Repeat from /alarm for /embed/alarm or from World Clock for /embed/clock. Date-style event pages use /countdown and /embed/countdown — that is days-to-an-event, not a 25-minute focus block.
The generator also sets appearance query params (buttons, font, theme, night mode, font size) so the iframe matches a Notion column. Size presets in the dialog (for example 300×250 or 475×250) are for HTML embeds on other sites; in Notion you resize the block after paste. Leave Show control buttons on unless the block is a tiny clock with no Start affordance.
Pitfalls: tab, sleep, autoplay, and Notion
- The Notion page (and the embed iframe) must stay open. Navigating away, closing the tab, or collapsing the laptop stops the countdown the same way /timer does.
- Sleep pauses timers. A docked Notion wiki on a sleeping display will not ring.
- Autoplay: even with autostart=1 on /embed/timer, many browsers mute the iframe until a click inside it. Plan to tap Start in the block once per session.
- This is not Pomodoro. A timer embed is one duration. For Focus/break cycles, open /pomodoro in a tab, or place a 25-minute embed next to a 5-minute embed and start them yourself.
- Recently Used and Settings on /timer are your browser's local data. The embed URL is the portable copy of that configuration; Notion does not read your localStorage.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I embed a timer in Notion for free?
- Yes. onetimer embed URLs are free. Paste a URL into Notion's embed block — no account required.
- Why doesn't the timer sound play automatically?
- Browsers block autoplay until you interact with the embed. Click Start (or Enable Sound) inside the timer block; the alarm can then play at zero.
- Can I use iframe HTML instead of a URL?
- Notion wants the URL. For other sites, use Embed on /timer to copy iframe HTML for /embed/timer with the same query string.
- What's the difference between a timer embed and Pomodoro?
- Timer embeds count down a single duration. Multi-phase Focus/break cycles with a round counter live on /pomodoro.
- Does laptop sleep or a closed Notion tab stop the embed?
- Yes. Keep the page open and the device awake, the same as the main /timer tab.
